WTI Advisors’ Geneva branch is recruiting an experienced and dynamic Economist to implement projects related to trade policy analysis, capacity-building and technical assistance.
WTI Advisors Ltd. is a UK-based highly specialized provider of technical assistance and advice on international trade issues with a branch office in Geneva.
WTI Advisors’ Geneva branch is recruiting an experienced and dynamic economist to implement projects related to trade policy analysis, capacity-building and technical assistance. Specific tasks will include the delivery of hands-on technical assistance projects (both in the WTO/Geneva context and in developing countries), formulation of data analysis and preparation of negotiating analyses and briefs as requested by governments.
Applicants will need:
- A minimum Master’s degree in economics or international trade
- 10 years of experience in the delivery of trade policy outcomes in a range of developing countries, on issues related to trade negotiations (goods and services) at the bilateral/regional/multilateral level
- Strong familiarity with core trade in goods-related issues (including ideally the WTO and EPA negotiations on agricultural and non-agricultural goods) and trade-related issues such as Aid-for-Trade, economic governance, aid effectiveness development/debt financing and preference erosion, particularly within the EU-ACP context
- Solid background in services issues (including ideally labour mobility, tourism and cultural services)
- Strong familiarity with national tariff schedules, the Harmonized System of Customs Classification and trade data
- Experience with regional integration issues, particularly in the Pacific region, Caribbean, and various African configurations, as well as non-ACP processes (particularly Latin America and Asia)
- Extensive knowledge EU-ACP Economic Partnership Agreements (EPA), particularly the CARIFORUM-EU EPA, and ongoing Pacific-EU and Africa-EU negotiations
- Strong contact network within the ACP Member States, regional Secretariats and donor partners (e.g. ComSec, IDB, CIDA, ADB)
- Experience in delivering analysis in written and spoken form to a wide range of stakeholders, particularly to trade policy officials, ambassadors, and political leaders
- Excellent analytical skills, with particular emphasis in building and interpreting the results of Excel-based partial-equilibrium modelling (e.g. revenue/welfare effects)
- Extensive experience delivering training sessions, workshops and stakeholder consultations on trade-related issues, particularly with respect to areas under WTO Agreements and EPAs
- Fluency in English, French and ideally Spanish
- Ability and willingness to work seamlessly within a small team of top professionals, to
- adapt quickly to changing demands and to deliver immediately presentable written results
- Willingness to travel extensively
- Highly developed sensitivity for cultural differences and ability to adapt to varying
- cultural contexts
Remuneration will be performance-based. The ideal starting date would be on or around 1 October 2011.
