Amb. Peter Black

is the former Ambassador of Jamaica to the WTO and the Specialised Agencies of the UN in Geneva. He was a member of the Jamaican Foreign Service for over forty years, and has also worked in the energy sector. He has a wealth of experience in international trade and political matters, including negotiations at the highest levels.


As Ambassador to the Caribbean Community he was deeply involved in the gamut of regional integration issues; and while at the WTO he was intimately involved in all aspects of the DDA negotiations, and in the Organisation’s regular work programme. He served as Joint Coordinator of the ACP Group, Coordinator of The CARICOM Group, and was Chair of the Working Party for the Accession of The Bahamas. He was also a member of the Board of the South Centre. He is now an international consultant, and has recently undertaken projects in the areas of intellectual property, and public utilities regulation. Educated at the University of the West Indies and Oxford University, his academic background is primarily in economics and international trade. Apart from his native English, he has some knowledge of German, French and Spanish.
